New Academy Cohort Forms in MidWest

The directors of the Academy for Missional Wisdom annouce a newly formed cohort for the midwestern states. Interested clergy and laity are encouraged to explore the academy here.  The MidWest cohort will draw from congregations in Kansas, Missouri, Iowa and more.

Recently, Woodlawn UMC in Derby, KS invited Academy Director Bret Wells and Wes Magruder to conduct a workshop to help them understand the work of the Foundation and to envision how participation in the Academy can help them to move in a missional direction.

“I have been going to church for a long time and there are moments when I feel like all the worship services, Bible studies, fellowship groups, and everything else just don’t go deep enough,” said Adam Barlow-Thompson, Woodlawn associate pastor. “The Missional Wisdom Foundation has trained, equipped and sent lay and clergy people across the United States to create small worshiping communities that are actively offering justice and hospitality to their neighbors.”

The Academy for Missional Wisdom is a two year non-degree program that provides laity and clergy with the theological foundation and practical skills needed for starting and leading micro-communities of contemplative prayer and missional action. The program integrates distance learning technology, immersion experiences, and retreats as well as a contextualized practicum with coaching to provide accessible and affordable education for persons who work full-time.
