“In everything, do to others as you would have them do to you.” ~ Matthew 7:12, New Revised Standard Version
On a couple of different occasions recently I’ve had the opportunity to reflect on this verse. Simply put, I believe that following the Golden Rule means nothing more or less than putting yourself in another person’s shoes; extending the same grace to them as you hope they would extend to you.
Sometimes that’s not easy to do, putting myself in another’s place, trying to imagine how I would feel if I were in their position, especially if it’s someone I passionately disagree with. I’m not very good at it. But it does help to try, and hopefully I’ll get better at it. All I can do is work on it, and I am.
I’m very thankful for all the people in my life who have loved and supported me over the past few years, and I’m glad that I’ve been able to love and support them in return.
