So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, “For I have seen God face to face, and yet my life is preserved.” - Genesis 32:30

Module Seven: The Pilgrim’s Way

In preparation for this week's material, please read Chapters 13–16 of The Samaritan’s Friend.

After you have completed the above, choose one of the the following:

  • Podcast: “Embodiment” on The Liturgists Podcast

  • Poem: “God Knows” by Minnie Louise Haskins

  • Video: “people react to being called beautiful”

breathebeauty I conducted an independent project, which evidently turned into a social experiment halfway through, regarding beauty at my performing arts high school in Chicago. I want to clarify that my intentions were not to get a reaction out of people. I was simply filming beauty and this is the result.

Discussion Questions:

  1. In The Samaritan’s Friend, a certain amount of healing occurs simply from being outside and walking. If willing, share with the group a time you experienced that.

  2. The narrator struggles to believe that Jesus could be alive. Is there something that you struggle to believe? How would believing it change you?

  3. The book ends with Jesus thanking the narrator for the times he’s been faithful and for following him. What is something that Jesus would thank you for?
