Dispersed Community: Companion

I sat on the concrete steps to my first house. It wasn't a sitting porch, it wasn't even a rocking chair porch, it was an exaggerated stoop with enough overhang to keep postal boxes and one lonely, new mom dry. I sat on the stoop looking at the first houses of all the people who lived in my neighborhood. And praying.

God, I am so lonely. Please send me a friend.

The funny thing about meeting people is that you probably have to do more than porch sit and hope. But, let's not be too hard on her. She knew there could be something more to a neighborhood than a collections of boxes in which to keep your stuff.

We all long for companionship. We all long for a hand to hold or a soul to sit beside or an adventure buddy. It might even be possible that it is through such as these that the grace of God flows.

The Missional Wisdom Foundation believes that creating spaces for companionship is not the work of a moment. It is long, slow journeying together. It is staying on the way together long enough to remember when you used to think very differently about that. It is meeting long enough to know what that sigh might mean. It is being with someone.

The Missional Wisdom Foundation's Dispersed Community has a group of Companions that gather each month for prayer. It is one hour wherein you can share the immensity of life with a group of travelers. Would you like to join? Check out our Dispersed Community Companion Level here.
