Episode 9 Interview: Justin Carter

In this episode, I interviewed Justin Carter, a city resident with a naturalists heart, game nerd, theologian, and an adventurer who tries new things. Justin shares with us about the challenges of being a pastor and finding space for yourself. He shares how meditation has affected his spiritual practice within a theological tradition that sings gospel music. We also take some time to share some of our favorite resources around care for creation including books, prayers, poems, and spiritual practices.

Some thoughts Justin shared - Justin M. Carter is a believer in education, earning a Bachelor degree from a HBCU, Southwestern Christian College in Terrell, Texas. Affectionately and widely known as “SWCC” to its alum. And in May 2019 he earned a M.Div from SMU Perkins in Dallas, Texas. Where he met “Ry Ry”, and they came up with so many fun nicknames for each other. He enjoys traveling, and practicing mindfulness. Some of his favorite places to go are Palestine and Italy, the latter he went with his bronana Ryan. While enjoying serving in ministry he is also quirky and loves the unique ways this shows. He currently serves as one of the Assistant Pastors on staff at the historic, Sheldon Heights Church of Christ, on the Southside of Chicago. He is a lover of nature and also enjoys games on his down time. He was also proclaimed by Ryan –his bronana– as one of the coolest he’s met at Perkins. An honor he cherishes
